Local Life Through Foreigner Eyes

Tänu paljudele reisidele on kohalik elukene täitsa unarusse jäänud, kuid vähemasti saab blogis see viga parandatud, sest toon jällegi teie ette minu jaoks need veidrad asjad ja kombed, mida siin märganud olen.

Reisimine Kreeka siseselt- teemaksud ja viimne puhkepaik
Reisides ringi ka Kreeka siseselt, avastasin, et ka siin riigis tuleb teemakse maksta, mis tavalisele sõiduautole on vist umbes 2€ kanti, sellest piisab nii kaua, kuniks tuleb jälle uus kiosk, minu meelest on kioskite tihedused erinevad, mida lähemale linnale, seda tihedamaks lähevad. Samuti märkasin teeääres palju lühikeste postide otsa pandud miniatuurseid kirikuid- need tähistavad kohti, kus mõni inimene kunagi hukka sai, kuigi tegemist on vist hääbuva kombega, on neid majakesi päris kõhe vaadata.

Üldiselt saab pangaautomaadist väikseima rahatähena välja võtta 20€ ning liikluses on täiesti tavaline astuda punase tule ajal poolenisti juba ülekäigurajale, sest esimene rida teeääres on mõeldud parikavatele autodele.

Cheers!

Thanks to the travelling I haven't spoke so much about local life, but today I will correct this mistake, because it's time for new post about the things which for me are new or different.

Travelling in Greece- road taxes and final resting place
While I traveled around Greece I discovered that there's a kiosks middle of the road where you have to pay the road taxes, I guess for a normal car it was around 2€ per kiosk and there is no certain length between of the kiosks, it seemed to me that the more closer you are to city the more often you have to pay. I also noticed that next of the road there's a lot of miniatures of churches- these things symbolizes the places where people got to accident and died, although it's not so popular to put them anymore, then the old ones still looks creepy to me. I guess the locals are used with them, but if I would be a driver then probably I would be much more careful thanks to them. Besides of those little churches it seems, that they also have crosses in the top of every bigger mountain. In airport they have also a bit different system, for example before giving the luggage away you must go first to do the check-in and then to go to next line where they are taking the luggage.

City life- annoying service and crazy traffic
In one moment, when I was shopping in clothes store, I noticed that I don't have nothing to buy from there, because the style is different than in our shops and well... they also have a lot of shops with very cheap and not so good quality things. Also most of the staff in clothes shops is very intrusive, like when I say "No thanks, I don't need help", they still are waiting near to me and this puts a lot of pressure on me. But the shops assistants in food store are different, even after I have made very clear that I don't speak Greek, they just continues to speak with me in their mother tongue. Usually the ATM smallest cash amount, which is possible to take out, is 20€ and in the traffic it is totally normal to step halfly to crosswalk while there's a red light, because the first car row is ment to be to the cars who are parking. Also remember, that if you call to taxi, then they will charge some extra money (around 2-3€).

The people- passionate kissers and cheek pinchers
In the last similar post I said that the Greek people are very loud, but later I noticed, that they are also expressing their feeling better than we do. And the physical contact is also much bigger, for example it is totally normal that in the bus stop completely stranger comes exactly next to you, although there much free space; or that doctors who you dont know are pinching your cheeks; and I even don't know how many passionately kissing couples I have seen in the day time on the streets. When people meet with each other they are "kissing" both of the cheeks, which for me is sometimes confusing, because in some countries they are doing it only ones and some countries even 3 times and well, then there's places where they only hug (like Estonia), so try to say "hello" to Erasmus people. I guess that people are more open here because of weather, too, although last week we had for a couple of days 7 degrees, then today it was for sure 15+ degrees and sunny, it literally smelled like spring! It seems that with English they have so-so relationship, the young people (my age ones) are the biggest surprises, sometimes they just look to my eyes with so lost face and then they say "No English", like I don't speak in here about fluent English, I mean sometimes they even can't understand of simple words, I don't know, am I asking too much or is it normal that young European people don't speak English??? Okay, actually a lot of young people still can speak very good one, so in my opinion in here the English speakers level is for sure higher than in Czech Republic and Turkey.

Ouu, in one night we had an earthquake, a small one, so I slept and didn't feel nothing, but as I understood the earthquakes are normal things in here. I haven't felt it yet or maybe I have, but just haven't recognized that, which also sounds also very logical, because I am not sure how it should felt and I know that some people are mixed it with other things.

And these were the funny and weird things! I am not sure that there will be more posts like this anymore, because in general I am used with all that stuff and hopefully about local Christmas I will do a separate post. But before Estonia I will do some travel posts for sure!
Cheers!
