Welcome Week

Cheers!

On last Sunday there was an end of 10-days-long welcome week, so it's time to show you some photos and tell some stories about it. There were over 10 events, which were in different sections (parties, meetings, volunteering and so on), at this time I tried to be active and participate as much as possible.

The welcome week started ofc with a party, with a flag party, so everybody had a chance to wear their national flags or/and colours, in this way it was nice to meet with the neighbors and see how many different natioions we had in there. There were a lot of students and the evening was funnier that I expected, my favourite moment was the sneaking to the roof, where was a nice view to the city and refreshing wind. The second party was on Monday, when was Tarerna night with dinner, long tables, music and a lot of red wine, the last one is the reason why in the next parties I kept quite low profile. And what would be welcome week without welcome party? Sadly my emotions weren't so awesome, there were so many people that I searched my friends for 1,5 hours, half of the people needed to stay outside, because inside was so crowded (we are talking about hundreds of Erasmus people), but the music was very good and I'd like to go back there when there's less people. The only party where I didn't go was the beach one- the weather was cloudy and the memories of the last sun burn were too strong.

But welcome week is much more then only having parties, for example we had a welcome day in the school, which was pretty awful, because they pay attention mostly to the students who will study there and left out the ones, who are making practice and they forgot to tell some really important information, for example about the students card drama I am talking in THIS video. On that week there were also a couple of city games, because most of the students arrived a week or two ago, in those games I met with some of my new friends and I found some pretty places where to do the photos and show them to my Estonian friends. One of my favourite events were a visit to dog shelter which was arranged by Social Erasmus, I know that this event was held also a couple of times in Czech Republic, but as I traveled a lot then I couldn't go there, so now is was even more excited. We played and walked with the dogs and each of us brought also food or medicine, which was super cute idea, time pasted so fast and it was sad to say goodbye to those super cute dogs. One of my friend even wants to take a dog from Thessaloniki's dog shelter- how cool is that!?

The main and last event of the welcome weekend was the trip to island called Skiathos, where also has filmed some scenes from Mamma Mia movie. It was a super pretty place, although I have heard that in some Greeks opinion it is quite average place, so I can't wait to see more places! Sadly in the first evening, when we had Taverna night nr 2, I got ill, so in the next day, while others sunbathed on the beach and swam in gorgeous blue water, I slept under the tree, fought with fever and avoided all those activities. After that event it started to rain, so the rest of the evening I spent most of the time in my hotel room, while some other people had fun in the outside pool and destroyed their alcohol- wan't the prettiest view. The last day we traveled back to Thessa, which took 7 hours (3 from Skiathos to mainland and 4 hours from there to Thessa), on that way we also visited place called Volos, which for me was quite random place, I only liked the sea side. I guess next to Skiathos Volos wasn't just so pretty, it just made the Volos more usual or maybe I was still angry about the local food place (in Volos), a fish restaurant (I don't like fish), where French fires and dip sauce costed 6€ (which is a normal price as I found out later), some of the people also waited 1,5 hours to got the food- so no thanks, after that I didn't had any mood to eat, so I sat there and waited for the others, okay, I tired a bit of rice with mustard and oysters, which was actually good (hahah, my old friends wouldn't believe if I would talk about it to them, because usually I don't eat this kind of food). But yeah, this is how the welcome week looked like, I got some new knowledge, experiences and the most important- friends, so it was a successful week.
Cheers!
